Search Volume (abbreviated as SV) refers to the number of times a specific keyword is searched on average per month in a given search engine — such as Google. SV is a quantitative value, typically expressed as a monthly search number (e.g.: 90 ⭢ approx. 90 searches/month), though depending on the tool, it may also represent a yearly average. This value can vary by country, language, and time period.
Search Volume helps identify keywords worth optimizing your content for — meaning it’s a powerful tool for mapping audience demand. It also plays a role in evaluating whether it’s worth competing for a specific term. Important! High SV is not a guarantee of success — these are often the most competitive keywords!
Seasonal changes also affect search volume: a keyword may spike during Christmas, summer, or events like Black Friday, and drop during other periods. That’s why timing and relevance are crucial in keyword research.
However, keyword search volume alone is not enough to build a solid content strategy. The real potential lies in the combination of the following three factors:
- SV (Search Volume): How much interest is there in the given keyword?
- KD (Keyword Difficulty): How hard is it to rank for that keyword?
- DA (Domain Authority): How strong is your website in Google's eyes?
